<p>The Science of Muscle Building</p>
<p>How do we get big muscle?  It’s actually fairly simple.  It’s not that easy (it takes actual <em>work</em>), but it is relatively simple.  Muscle growth is the body’s adaptive response to external physical resistance to movement.  In short, you want bigger muscles so you can lift heavy things.  The question is, how fast do you want to build mass?   To gain rapid mass, all body systems must be optimized and focused for that purpose.  Stimulating the body’s adaptive processes, then feeding and nurturing this response process &#8211; this is the real science of muscle building.</p>
<p>The Anabolic Formula:  Eat + Train + Rest = Grow</p>
<p>Eat, Train, Rest, these are the 3 variables that govern how fast you’ll build muscle.  If all 3 of these variables are controlled in a specific manner, you’ll create a synergistic environment within your body wherein all of your energy will be focused optimally on growth.  We call this the optimal anabolic state.</p>
<p>Eat:</p>
<p>Nutrition is key to feeding muscle growth.  Fueling muscular growth requires a significant increase in nutrients, especially protein. For aggressive nutrition to feed your hardcore training and supplementation program, AMS researchers recommend the following dietary guidelines to maximize anabolic potential:</p>
<p>1.  Protein:  eat 1.8 grams per pound of bodyweight</p>
<p>2.  Carbohydrates:  Eat 2.2 grams of carbohydrates per pound of bodyweight on training days.  On non-training days, consume only 30% of this amount of carbs.</p>
<p>3.   Fats:  Keep fats as low as possible.  Supplement with EFA blend, 1gram 3 x/day, to keep “good fats” in system, to protect heart health.</p>
<p>Divide nutrients equally into 6-8 small meals, eating every 2-3 hours.  Choose from whole grains for carbs and avoid sugars.  Keep fruits to 3 pieces per day.  Drink at least ½ gallon of water for every 50lbs of bodyweight.</p>
<p><em>Example:</em> a 200lb athlete following this nutritional program would have the following nutrient intake profile:</p>
<p>protein:  360 grams/day</p>
<p>carbs:  440 grams carbs/day on training days (150 grams on rest days);  fats:  minimal, except for 3grams EFAs per day.</p>
<p>Training:</p>
<p>The body responds to certain specific training variables with maximum output of anabolic hormones, in order to stimulate maximum adaptation <em>– rapid acquisition of lean mass</em>.</p>
<p>The following 3 training variables will maximize the body’s hormonal response, and help you get the most muscle growth out of each and every workout.  Design your training program with consideration for:</p>
<p>1.  Intensity (intensity = work / time) Work as hard as you can, move as much weight as you can, but do it quickly.  Keep the pace fast, aggressive.  You’ll find your intensity levels shoot the moon.  Rest briefly, short duration, do it again</p>
<p>2.  Speed of repetitions &#8211; Explosive, sub-maximal high-rep sets trigger positive endocrine response.</p>
<p>3.   Volume – it’s not only high-intensity training (high workload over time) but it’s doing it again, and again, and again that will stimulate maximum hormonal response.</p>

<p>wide grip pulldowns – 4 sets, 10-12 reps each</p>
<p>medium-wide grip pulldowns – 2 sets 12 reps each</p>
<p>1 arm dumbbell row  -  3 sets, 8-10 reps each</p>
<p>¾ deadlifts – heavy weight, 3 sets, 8 reps each</p>
<p>DELTS:</p>
<p>Seated dumbbell press  -  4 sets,  8 reps each</p>
<p>one-arm seated side laterals  -  3 sets,  15 reps each</p>
<p>smith machine behind neck press  -  3 sets, 10 reps each</p>
<p>rear delt, bent dumbbell laterals -  3 sets, 12 reps each</p>
<p>dumbbell shrugs – 3 sets, 8-10 reps each</p>
<p>ARMS:</p>
<p>(Alternate biceps and triceps work)</p>
<p>standing alt. dumbbell curl /  triceps pushdowns (cable)  -  4 sets, 8-10 reps</p>
<p>skull crushers (mod. French press) / straight bar standing curls  -  3 sets, 8 reps</p>
<p>dumbbell kick backs / concentration curls  -  3 sets, 10 reps</p>
<p>LEGS:</p>
<p>Squats   -   4 sets, 12-15 reps</p>
<p>close-stance hack squat  -  3 sets, 15 reps</p>
<p>lying leg curls – 4 sets, 12 reps</p>
<p>walking lunges, barbell  -  2 sets, 20 strides per leg</p>
<p>stiff-legged deadlifts  -  3 sets, 8-10 reps</p>
<p>Additional Diet &amp; Training Tips from “The Freak”:</p>
<p>*Vary your rep speed 3 seconds on the eccentric and 1 second on the concentric. On other days, execute speed workouts. This will definitely boost the anabolic state in your body.</p>
<p>*Never miss meals!!! Eating your protein every few hours   keeps your nitrogen balance up, thus promoting the body’s repair and rebuilding phase.</p>
<p>Remember, controlling the intensity of your training is the key to optimizing this component of your total mass building program.  Keep your mind in the muscle, focused on the task at hand, each and every single rep you are squeezing out during your training sessions.  The next time you’re in the gym, take a good look around.  Watch the ham-n-eggaz on their cell phones while working out, or chatting with the local gym hottie, putting more attention into things other than training.  Notice their physiques.  Now, notice that the guys with the best physiques in the gym are the guys who put 100% of their physical and mental energy into their training.  Decide even before you start training which group you belong to.  Define yourself by your actions.  Commit to your goals.  Now go make them.</p>

<p>Upright Rows (close grip) – 5 sets and 10 reps</p>

<p>Arnold Presses – 5 sets and 10 reps. (rest 30 seconds in between sets). Alternate each week with side laterals – 5 sets and 8 – 12 reps.</p>

<p>The focus of this “Hardcore Training” is to get the muscles stronger in the basic movements and keep volume low. Once you make it through the “Hardcore Training”, you can move on to targeting different muscle fibers.  This particular routine should only be for 6 – 10 weeks. If you use this routine any longer – you may experience lifting plateus and joint achiness. If you do experience plateuing or fell overtrainined – take a week of reduced lifting to give your body the healing time it needs.</p>

<p>Calves – 10 sets of 20 reps on leg press raise machine. Alternate with 5 sets and 10 reps standing calf and 5 sets of 15 with seated calf.</p>
<p>Additional Diet &amp; Training Tips from “The Freak”:</p>
<p>*Alternate heavy weight/longer rest periods/fewer reps with lighter weight/shorter rest periods/more reps. This will help you avoid strength and growth plateaus.</p>
<p>*Red meat has 5 grams of creatine per lb and is one of the best &#8221;size builder proteins&#8221;. Stick to the leaner cuts (filet mignon, flank steak and eye of the round) to avoid raising your cholesterol too high.</p>

<p>The Science of Muscle Building</p>
<p>How do we get big muscle?  It’s actually fairly simple.  It’s not that easy (it takes actual <em>work</em>), but it is relatively simple.  Muscle growth is the body’s adaptive response to external physical resistance to movement.  In short, you want bigger muscles so you can lift heavy things.  The question is, how fast do you want to build mass?   To gain rapid mass, all body systems must be optimized and focused for that purpose.  Stimulating the body’s adaptive processes, then feeding and nurturing this response process &#8211; this is the real science of muscle building.</p>
<p>The Anabolic Formula:  Eat + Train + Rest = Grow</p>
<p>Eat, Train, Rest, these are the 3 variables that govern how fast you’ll build muscle.  If all 3 of these variables are controlled in a specific manner, you’ll create a synergistic environment within your body wherein all of your energy will be focused optimally on growth.  We call this the optimal anabolic state.</p>
<p>Eat:</p>
<p>Nutrition is key to feeding muscle growth.  Fueling muscular growth requires a significant increase in nutrients, especially protein. For aggressive nutrition to feed your hardcore training and supplementation program, AMS researchers recommend the following dietary guidelines to maximize anabolic potential:</p>
<p>1.  Protein:  eat 1.8 grams per pound of bodyweight</p>
<p>2.  Carbohydrates:  Eat 2.2 grams of carbohydrates per pound of bodyweight on training days.  On non-training days, consume only 30% of this amount of carbs.</p>
<p>3.   Fats:  Keep fats as low as possible.  Supplement with EFA blend, 1gram 3 x/day, to keep “good fats” in system, to protect heart health.</p>
<p>Divide nutrients equally into 6-8 small meals, eating every 2-3 hours.  Choose from whole grains for carbs and avoid sugars.  Keep fruits to 3 pieces per day.  Drink at least ½ gallon of water for every 50lbs of bodyweight.</p>
<p><em>Example:</em> a 200lb athlete following this nutritional program would have the following nutrient intake profile:</p>
<p>protein:  360 grams/day</p>
<p>carbs:  440 grams carbs/day on training days (150 grams on rest days);  fats:  minimal, except for 3grams EFAs per day.</p>
<p>Training:</p>
<p>The body responds to certain specific training variables with maximum output of anabolic hormones, in order to stimulate maximum adaptation <em>– rapid acquisition of lean mass</em>.</p>
<p>The following 3 training variables will maximize the body’s hormonal response, and help you get the most muscle growth out of each and every workout.  Design your training program with consideration for:</p>
<p>1.  Intensity (intensity = work / time) Work as hard as you can, move as much weight as you can, but do it quickly.  Keep the pace fast, aggressive.  You’ll find your intensity levels shoot the moon.  Rest briefly, short duration, do it again</p>
<p>2.  Speed of repetitions &#8211; Explosive, sub-maximal high-rep sets trigger positive endocrine response.</p>
<p>3.   Volume – it’s not only high-intensity training (high workload over time) but it’s doing it again, and again, and again that will stimulate maximum hormonal response.</p>

<p>Flex Flat Press – 3 sets, 8-10 reps each (seated, upright chest press)</p>
<p>Incline Bench 1.5 Style – 3 sets, 5 reps each (start weight down touching chest, press up halfway, hold and then press through for one rep)</p>
<p>Hammer Dip Machine – 2 warm up reps and 4 sets of 10-12 reps each.</p>
<p>Pec Deck – 2 warm up reps and 5 to 7 sets of 12-15 reps each.</p>
<p>BACK:</p>
<p>Pull downs/Medium Grip – 5 sets, 10-12 reps each</p>
<p>T-Bar Rows –  3 sets, 10-12 reps each</p>
<p>¾ Dead lifts – 3 sets, 12-15 reps each</p>
<p>One Arm Rows/Corkscrew Style – 3 sets, 12 reps each</p>
<p>Two Arm, Dumbbell, Bent-Over Rows – 3 sets, 8-10 reps each (crouch down and pull weights back toward lats)</p>
<p>Seated, Close-Grip, Cable Rows – 3 sets, 10-12 reps each</p>
<p>Dumbbell Pullover – 5 sets, 15 reps each (lay flat, stomach up and let weight fall beyond your head)</p>
<p>DELTS:</p>
<p>Front Smith Machine Press – 2 warm up sets of 10-15 reps each and 5 sets of 8 reps</p>
<p>Wide Grip Upright Rows – 4 sets, 10-12 reps</p>
<p>Rear Pec Deck – 4 sets, 12-15 reps each</p>
<p>Seated Side Laterals “30’s” – 4 sets – 10 reps on each side (do this 3 times to = 1 set)</p>
<p>Machine Press (dumbbell-type movement) – 5 sets, 15 reps each (30 seconds rest in between sets)</p>
<p>ARMS:</p>

<p>Additional Diet &amp; Training Tips from “The Freak”:</p>
<p>*Train heavy with longer rest periods to boost testosterone. Example – when your squatting, keep reps in the 4-8 number range -  pyramid the weight up. Take 1-3 minutes rest to increase strength.</p>
<p>*Eat a bit more &#8221;good fats” protein like full eggs, red meat, nuts. These “good fats” aid in the anabolic response in your body.</p>

<p>After nearly five years of business, AMS is proud to launch yet another series of hardcore prohormone-related products designed specifically to enhance our workouts, our bodies and our lives. </p>
<p>We made our splash in the market back in 2007 with 1-Andro, 4-AD and Arom-X capsules and have continued to evolve so the consumer would always have the &#8220;Strongest on the Market&#8221;. Once we realized the active hormones in 1-Andro, 4-AD and later Decavol were much more efficient in liquid form than the antiquated oral capsule delivery &#8211; we introduced our &#8220;UTT&#8221; formula and later named it our &#8220;Liquid Series&#8221;. Rapid Dissolve tablets were proven to be even more efficient and offered better bioavailability so we turned from liquid to &#8220;RD&#8221; tablets as we evolved and learned how to make better, stronger and more efficient prohormones for our customers.</p>
<p>In our next run of prohormones, we will be adding a new absorption matrix that will increase our already superior bioavailable prohormones by as much as 30%. This effervescent technology is already used in Pump Fixx to give it the added strength I&#8217;m sure you&#8217;ve experienced. This new formula is right around the corner and I&#8217;m sure you will be satisfied with how much more active hormone converts to its target in the body. We will also be introducing a brand new prohormone called DecaSARM &#8211; what we have tagged the intelligent prohormone (you can read more about it at the AMS Facebook Fan page).</p>

<p>From the very begining , my goal was to achieve my best look ever .  I wasn&#8217;t  worried about placing, this  was more personal , my yrs as an amatuer , the main focus was to earn that pro card, now  its more of a personal goal show to show. As you can see from the various pictures , I  feel I  def.  achieved my goal!  And on top of that , it was a fun and less frustrating  journey than some yrs in the past.  I was confident  week by week  with the progress I  was making and could see the light at the end of the tunnel  closing in week by week building my confidence more and more.</p>

<p>Alot the reasons for me being at my best was my team and the &#8220;stability&#8221;  they gave me .Having   Kim , my  lovely  girlfriend  here living with me gave me round the clock  love and support  which kept my nerves and stress levels   very low  , even when times got tough.  We all know training is a big part of contest prep so ,having my long time training partner ,Pete  Ciccone who knows my training style  oh -so -well,  gave me confidence  I needed to push the limits when I needed to knowing he had my back. Having a solid partner comes in  very handy when your brain wants you to stop.</p>

<p>  Having  Advanced Muscle Science  as my sponsor  was a huge part of my success this yr.  Understanding   there supplements so well and being able to incorporate them in my prep  through the weeks  allowed for me to have better performance in the gym and better gains , which is what we strive for . I&#8217;m a big fan of AMS&#8217;s  Triangle stack, which  consists of  Pump Fixx, Carb  Free Body Mortar and last but  def. not least  Hyper Trop X.  I  used Pump Fixx  pre workous   pretty much every workout usually 2 scoops  per session  and sometimes 3 when carbs  were very low.  Body Mortar I was putting 2  scoops in my half gallon  jug and that was 3x a day as well as a serving before and after weight training and  cardio sessions.Hyper trop X I  took before cardio and on leg and back days as  those were my high volume days.  This def. helped with fatigue  on the 20 plus sets of training. One key factor was being  able to  call  Dave  and discuss  how to make the products more effective for my prep was key as well.Again  it goes back to building confidence in what I was doing and putting in my body.</p>

<p>As  most of you know ,  I had hired Chris  Aceto  for assistance  since last nov.  since hiring him to the day of the show I had zero cheat meals.  YES  , not  one,  the way he had me eating , it honestly didnt bother me . I was looking better each day , he had food choices that  kept my  cravings down and the key eye  he had allowed me to do tons less cardio which I myself  hate doing. As  prep  progressed, the way he conducted himself with me   allowed my confidence to grow,  he had simple rules I  had to follow , 1.   dont stress and  2. he runs the show.  Which is  why I hired him ,  he took the pressure or doubt off my shoulders,  this allowed me to just go on auto pilot  and conduct my   daily duties and not  second  guess myself</p>

<p> So as you can see my foundation was solid, for my journey  I had great people  behind my allowing me to do what I do ,which is train balls to the wall  and bring the best package I can bring. The competition was great , 17  guys in the show and  I placed 5th weighing   in at 160lbs  and on stage approx.  162. I def.  felt a victory on this   day as  I achieved my best look and highest placing in a pro show  to date.</p>
